If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

Susan Pease Banitt, LCSW is a Harvard trained psychotherapist with over thirty years experience in mental health work. She has worked in a variety of settings with hundreds of diverse clients over the years: residential childcare, child abuse prevention, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, medical hospitals and private practice. Over the years she has come to see that traumatic stress and experiences are behind the vast majority of suffering in mind and body.

Since a very young age Susan has been aware of her spiritual nature. As a child she enjoyed a closeness with the divine that she took for granted. After a Christian upbringing , Susan was prompted to study yoga and meditation in her late twenties and obtained her certification as a teacher of hatha yoga in her thirties.  Her gifts of empathy and intuition became fully engaged when she began formal work with a shaman about ten years ago. At the same time she delved deeper into yogic philosophy through intensive study of Vedanta, ancient Indian spiritual wisdom.

As a healed survivor, herself, of early traumatic abuse, Susan acts as a compassionate guide for those struggling to free themselves from the effects of traumatic stress. She acknowledges the liberating spiritual opportunities offered in the experience of deep suffering. Because Susan has worked with so many gifted psychiatric and alternative practitioners she has a large toolbox of interventions to offer clients and colleagues.

Susan wants visitors to know that although she teaches spiritual concepts, she does not consider herself a guru or “enlightened”. She is not looking for followers. She considers herself someone who has maybe gone a little bit further down the wisdom path than many, sometimes because of her own work, and sometimes because she has been pushed or knocked upside the head by life. Her joy is to offer the world whatever benefit there may be in her hard work, research and experiences.  She has created InsightOutHealing.com to share what she has learned to those who need it most.
